How do single-seat valves work?

The name of the valve technology is derived from the simple valve seat, where a one-piece or two-piece disc-shaped valve body is located, depending on the design. By raising or lowering the valve seat in a controlled manner, the flow rate is precisely regulated or completely stopped. Sealing between the valve body and housing seat is ensured by axially or radially arranged seals on the body. Depending on the degree of automation, the valve seat position can be adjusted manually via a handle or pneumatically.

What are the advantages of single-seat valves?

  • Globe-shaped valve body enables separation and distribution of media
  • Spherical valve housing ensures sump and dome freedom
  • Manual or pneumatic operation
  • Various housing designs and sealing options
  • Designed to meet the highest hygienic and aseptic standards
  • Easy-to-maintain valve technology

How do single-seat valves differ?

Single-seat valves can generally be categorized into shut-off valves and divert valves, each designed with different housing styles, valve bodies, sealing options, and actuators depending on their function.

Single-Seat Shut-Off Valves

Single-seat shut-off valves are designed with a one-piece, globe-shaped valve body that regulates flow within a spherical valve housing. Depending on the process requirements, these valves can also feature two valve housings, which may be welded together or connected using clamps. The valve disc can be manually or pneumatically raised or lowered, allowing for precise control of the flow or complete shut-off. Because of their straightforward functionality, shut-off valves are widely used in simple hygienic applications, such as draining process tanks.

Single-Seat Divert Valves

Single-seat divert valves, on the other hand, are engineered for distributing and switching media flows between multiple pipeline sections. These valves can consist of up to three spherical valve housings stacked together, connected either by welding or using clamps. Equipped with two valve discs, the divert valve's body allows for precise control of media flow based on its position. Due to the complexity of this design, the actuator is typically pneumatically operated. In practice, divert valves are often employed in applications like the controlled delivery of CIP cleaning media into process pipelines.
