Thixotropic Fluids

Thixotropic fluids that are thick, or viscous, under static conditions will become thin, and less viscous over time when shaken, agitated, sheared or stressed.

There are many examples of thixotropic liquid including wastewater sludges, drilling fluids, paints, flocculants, ketchup, clay, and many dairy products.

A gentle pumping action with low shear is normally required when pumping thixotropic liquids which is a characteristic of many positive displacement pump types offered by AxFlow Ireland.
