EHEDG

The European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) was founded in 1989 as a non-profit consortium of equipment manufacturers, food producers, suppliers to the food industry, research institutes and universities, public health authorities and governmental organisations.

The principal goal of EHEDG is the promotion of safe food by improving hygienic engineering and design in all aspects of food manufacture.

The hygienic design considerations of the CE Machinery Directive EU standard EN1672-2 only require a risk assessment and rely on self-certification. EHEDG certification goes into more detail having specific requirements for different applications and requires tests relating to clean-ability rather than just a risk assessment. Using EHEDG certified pumps reduces the risk of product contamination and the time spent cleaning them.
