Nitric acid (HNO3), also known as aqua fortis (latin for "strong water") and spirit of niter, is a highly corrosive, mineral acid.
The liquid has a boiling temperature of 120.5 °C at 1 atm. Also, referred to as concentrated nitric acid. Pure concentrated nitric acid is a colourless liquid at room temperature.
The challenges of pumping nitric acid
Higher concentrations of Nitric Acid can attach to most metals so pumps manufactured from techno polymers are more suitable and can also be heavy depending on the concentration and temperature. Nitric acid has a specfic gravity of 1.5 so care must be taken at higher conentrations that the motor and magnetic coupling (if using a mag drive pump) are not over loaded.
