Nitric acid (HNO3), also known as aqua fortis (latin for "strong water") and spirit of niter, is a highly corrosive, mineral acid.
Nitric acid is a moderately strong inorganic acid of a reducing nature with a host of uses. The liquid has a boiling temperature of 120.5 °C at 1 atm. Also, referred to as concentrated nitric acid. Pure concentrated nitric acid is a colourless liquid at room temperature.
THE CHALLENGES OF PUMPING NITRIC ACID
Higher concentrations of Nitric Acid can attached most metals so pumps manufactured from techno polymers are more suitable also be heavy depending on the concentration and temperature. Nitric acid has a specfic gravity of 1.5 so care must be taken at higher conentrations that the motor and magnetic coupling (if using a mag drive pump) are not over loaded.
